HOW TO PICK A BUSINESS COACH? A quick guide with sass
5 THINGS YOU NEED TO LOOK FOR IN A COACH:
– FIT: You need to look for someone that puts fit above all, instead of someone that tries to convince everyone and anyone to work with them. As with friendships and relationships, not everything is a fit. In spanish we say: You can force those shoes in your feet, but they’ll pinch your feet (or something like that)
– A POSITIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS SELLING TO YOU: A coach that uses high pressure tactics might need the sale a lot more that they’re letting you know aka. their business might not be as successful as they say.
– TESTIMONIALS: They have great testimonials that grow with time, that don’t sound mechanical and come from the heart.
– RETENTION: Their clients stay with them for a long time and/or refer them. If a coach has new clients every year (unless the business is designed that way) it says a lot that people stay with them for just one cycle/contract.
– VALUES: You need to share values for 2 reasons: 1. You’re going to spend lots of time with them and you want to make that time enjoyable. 2. Their advice must resonate with you 100% able to execute what they teach you and it needs to align with
– NO COOKIE CUTTER SOLUTIONS: If you’d wanted theory to be recited to you, you’d read a book. Invest in solutions that are customized to your needs, wants and values.
– VALUE: Not to be confused with “values”. What I’m referring to it here is that you’re getting what you paid for. Beware of group coaching programs that are really just an online course; and one on one programs with very little one on one time.
What other things have you considered when picking a business coach? If you are a coach, how do you ensure that your clients are the right fit?
